A rowdy audience of excited fans at Comic-Con in San Diego received the release of the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer from Marvel Studios amid whoops of applause.
The movie is the follow-up to 2018’s Black Panther, which starred the late Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, the valiant crime-fighting monarch of Wakanda, an imaginary African nation with highly developed technology.
There were tears on stage as Boseman’s castmates spoke about how much it meant to them to honor his memory with this new effort, which is included in the trailer’s opening track, No Woman, No Cry.
The Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, who is back, talked about how thrilled T’Challa actor was to watch the film’s first footage at Comic-Con five years prior.
Now, he continued, “I can feel his touch on me.”
Letitia Wright, a British actress who portrays Shuri, the Black Panther’s sister, and Lupita Nyong’o, an Oscar winner who plays Nakia, an undercover snoop working for Wakanda, are also reprising their roles.
An ensemble of musicians and dancers playing African drums and singing got the audience on their feet before the company took the stage with a spine-tingling performance.
Tenoch Huerta (Narcos: Mexico) will debut in Wakanda Forever as the Sub-Mariner, Namor McKenzie’s anti-hero alter ego. This confirms a long-running rumor about the movie’s casting. The movie’s antagonist is Namor, king of the underwater realm of Atlantis; the teaser alludes to a confrontation between Wakanda and his people.
Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You) and Dominique Thorne, who plays the role of Riri Williams/Ironheart—a young scientist who transforms into a superhero—are other recent cast additions. In 2023, Disney+ will debut its own series.
The original Black Panther movie made more than $1 billion worldwide, becoming the first superhero movie to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar and setting a historical precedent for diversity in cinema.
Marvel previously stated that the role of T’Challa would not be recast. However, this decision has divided fans, with some believing that since Boseman passed away from colon cancer in 2020, the role should always belong to him and others, like Boseman’s brother, believing that a new actor should take on the role.
A telltale flash of the Black Panther claws can be seen in the very last frame of the teaser, despite the fact that it wasn’t confirmed that Shuri would now be wearing the panther costume.
Plans for the Next Three Years by Marvel
The Marvel Universe is a vast location with dozens of overlapping characters that readers who are not familiar with should be aware of. In order to make it more manageable, the Marvel Universe authors have divided their work into “phases.”
Phase 4 of the current slate of motion pictures and television programs, which will conclude on November 11 with Wakanda Forever, was revealed by Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios.
By revealing Phase 5, he gave fans a sneak peek into the future and revealed that the new picture cycle would begin on February 17 with the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, starring Paul Rudd as Scott Lang / Ant-Man.
Rudd was asked about his character’s recent activities after joining Feige on stage with the rest of the group.
The third and final volume of the intergalactic adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, is the next to be released on May 5. In North Carolina, where Iron Man 3 was being shot, director James Gunn cried as he recalled pitching the franchise ten years ago this week.
The cast of the movie joined Gunn on the renowned Hall H stage, and Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord, acknowledged that it was the cast’s first opportunity to view the trailer, adding, “It’s gorgeous!”
The Marvels, in which Captain Marvel teams up with Ms. Marvel and Spectrum, a.k.a. Monica Rambeau, is the next chapter in Phase 5’s sprint.
As there was no team revelation today, fans will have to wait a bit longer to find out who will be participating in it. It will culminate in July 2024 with Thunderbolts.
Feige then moved on to Phase 6, announcing that The Fantastic Four will be in the cycle and that it will be released on November 8, 2024, though no casting has yet been announced. In addition, two movies, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, will conclude Phase 6 around the end of 2025.
Marvel doesn’t publicly advertise what it will talk about at San Diego Comic-Con, but its announcements are the most anticipated event of the day on Saturday. San Diego Comic-Con is a huge pop culture event where some of the most popular movies in history have made their debut.
Thor: Love and Thunder, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Moon Knight, and Miss Marvel are just a few of the films and TV shows that have already been released in 2022. Benedict Cumberbatch plays the doctor-cum-master of the mystical arts in all of them.
