In the past decades, the world’s political climate has had its fair share of unrest and turbulence. In the United States, the political divide has become more apparent with the advent of social media. This caused a few concerned individuals to mobilize and create organizations aimed to encourage the general public to participate and be involved in their civic duties. One such group is the Free & Equal Elections Foundation, a nonpartisan, non-profit political organization that leads efforts to open the electoral process in the United States. Its mission is to empower American voters through education and collaborative action.
To generate more engagement to the cause, the institution came up with a fun and educational activity—the United We Stand Festival. It is an annual event that gathers and showcases several speakers, thought-leaders, activists, artists, and musicians, all of whom share a common goal. At its core, the festival brings communities together, which aims to inspire people to take a more active role in shaping and reforming the country’s politics.
This year, the two-day affair is celebrating its seventh year and is set to take place on July 3-4 from 11 AM to 8 PM PDT in the beachside town of Cambria, California. Three hundred in-person guests are expected to attend the show. The event will also be streaming live on the Free and Equal website.
Over 40 artists and speakers are lined up to perform, including Mike Love, Peia, Cas Haley, Samuel J, G. Edward Griffin, Sean Stone, Richard Gage, Cindy Sheehan, Brock Pierce, Keith Mitchell, Karla Ballard and many others. Several personalities and organizations are also scheduled to speak in the festival panels.
Numerous companies have already shown their support to the organization and have sponsored the event, such as Vote Bash, Regener8tive, Spark Hand Up, Amma Healing, Mikuna Foods, KNEKT.tv, Cambria Massage Therapy, Bali Gems, Cambria Currents, June Shine, Bulk Hemp Warehouse, Cambria Business Center, VeloCambria, West End Bar & Grill, Las Cambritas, Zen Again Catering & Events, Oceanpoint Ranch, Blue Bird Inn, to name a few.
When asked about the upcoming event, Free & Equal founder Christina Tobin said, “At this year’s UWS Festival, attendees will connect face to face with our community sponsors and national thought leaders for networking and coalition-building to inspire individuals to run for office while giving back to our youth and uplifting our community with music, art, food, and conversation.”
On top of the festival’s long-standing goal, the proceeds of this year’s event will be donated to Skate Cambria, an organization with the mission of rebuilding the local skatepark that was removed and reverted to an empty asphalt lot in the spring of 2020.
The Free & Equal team remains optimistic that more Americans will gain awareness about the imbalances within electoral processes through the event and their continuous efforts, and ultimately, lasting changes will occur.
