Jean-Baptiste Dominguez, the culinary visionary and Co-founder & CEO of HUE, shares his personal journey as a food enthusiast struggling to find the perfect spot to eat. “Existing apps fall short when it comes to recommending based on individual taste” notes Jean-Baptiste. “Some startups attempted a friend-recommendation approach, but I love most of my friends for who they’re, not their taste.”
Previously Co-Founder of Clash App, a Los Angeles-based short-form video app boasting 6.5 million users post-launch and $9 million in funding, Jean-Baptiste, alongside Noriko Shindo, an ex-Amazonian with an MBA from INSEAD, started ideating HUE in September 2023. This innovative app aims to be more than just a tool; it’s a personalized guide to navigating California’s rich and diverse culinary landscape.
The company says its proprietary algorithm assigns each user a ‘Hue’ – a unique color profile intended to visually represent individual taste preferences. It states this allows recommendations to adapt over time as the app learns more about each user.
HUE allows users to discover restaurant recommendations tailored specifically for their evolving HUE. Features allow users to view restaurant recommendations based on their profile, explore places endorsed by friends, and engage with curated lists from members who share similar HUEs.
Already, HUE is received with enthusiasm. A couple in real-life and creators on Instagram brycexavier and matthewjac0b expressed that they are super excited to use HUE to log and plan their date spots in LA. A prominent YouTube and IG creator meishmoe, celebrated the app’s arrival, exclaiming, “It’s about time we had a new Yelp”
