Born and raised in Gadsden, Alabama, Robert Abernathy’s childhood exposure to music was immersed in Southern Gospel and Traditional Country – a powerful influence that would stay with him on his journey into the music industry. Abernathy’s deep interest in music particularly shifted toward the fascinating realm of creation with a distinctive point of inflection: a memorable Christmas when he received Michael Jackson’s Thriller record and a stereo that towered to 3 feet. He would listen, analyze, and memorize every single note and lyric, unlocking an inspiring passion for harmony and rhythm.

Starting with an old Mickey Mouse acoustic guitar, a Mel Bay chord book, and a burning desire to learn, Abernathy taught himself how to play. He started by learning songs from renowned bands like Alabama and The Eagles. By the time he was just 16 years old, he had honed enough skills to play and sing soulfully. Today, he is living his dream as an integral part of the bustling music scene on Lower Broadway in Nashville; his youthful aspirations have blossomed into a spectacular reality.

Throughout his career, Abernathy has been busy immersing himself in songwriting collaboration, resulting in a profound pool of songs. Initially intending to release them individually or as a collection of EPs, he decided that each song packed too much vibrancy to be left unheard, leading him to compile and release them as an album, “Somewhere Around 18.” It includes creatively curated songs that are radio-ready and reflect his personal experiences and narratives. The warm reception and accolades these songs have received reflect the authenticity Abernathy brings to his craft.

The tracks include the beautifully composed “Heaven Has a Radio,” which has a personal nostalgic resonance for Abernathy. Tracks like “Out of the Blue,” “A Little Tied Up,” “Beach Looks Good on You,” and “Redneck Magic” show his versatility in crafting songs that are different yet immensely harmonious and soothing. Overall, the album epitomizes his reminiscences of fraught yet memorable teenagers, reliving the precious moments and experiences of being 18.

Despite the enchanting allure of performing, Abernathy’s heart missed the joy of teaching, leading him to return to instructing Kindergarten through 5th Grade P.E. at a school outside Nashville. The gratification of molding young minds, filling their days with excitement, and witnessing them enjoy his classes has added a fulfilling dimension to his life.

In his early years, two bands – The Eagles and Alabama, were pivotal in teaching Abernathy, inspiring him to learn the guitar and sing harmonies. The magic unraveled when he was captivated by their breathtaking performances, eventually launching his career. Today, Abernathy is the lead singer/frontman of the US #1 Eagles Tribute Show, Eagle Sunrise Band, and the Alabama Tribute Show, Alabama Sunset. Spectacular performances have seen him grace legendary stages like Legends Corner, The Stage, Second Fiddle, Wildhorse Saloon, Dawghouse Saloon, and Tin Roof, marking the delightful fulfillment of his long-cherished dreams.

In a quotable reflection on his career trajectory, Abernathy shared, “I learned to play the guitar and sing harmony listening to bands, The Eagles and Alabama, when I was young. Now I’m the lead singer/frontman to The US #1 Eagles Tribute Show, Eagle Sunrise Band, and the Alabama Tribute Show, Alabama Sunset.”
